Backup of an EMC Filer using the NDMP option in Backup Exec version 12.x and above fails with the following error.

NDMP Log section of the job log shows the following:

NDMP Mover Halted: Internal Error
NDMP Log Message: SnapSure file system creation fails
NDMP Data Halted: Aborted

Cause

Backup Exec 12.x and above by default uses the SnapSure option for backups of EMC filer. This error will come up if SnapSure is not installed/licensed on the EMC box or if for some reason SnapSure is not able to dump the data.

Solution

In the Backup job properties deselect the option "Backup with integrated checkpoints (SnapSure)" (Figure 1) under the NDMP option.

Figure 1:

NOTE: In order to perform SnapSure based backups make sure SnapSure is installed/licensed and is working fine. If the problem still persists contact EMC to resolve the problem with SnapSure.

Backup Exec version 12 and prior required SnapSure to be enabled for backups of EMC Celerra box. In case the error comes up with Backup Exec version 12 or prior then contact EMC to resolve the problem with SnapSure

For detailed information about SnapSure, check EMC documentation.
