Individual mailbox restore from a GRT (Granular Restore Technology) Backup fails with error "cannot open one or more mail messages because of unknown mapi errors"


Solution




This issue can occur because of another application interfering with the restore or because the mail items or mailbox were actually corrupt when the backup ran.  Make sure no other applications, such as anti-virus software, are running during the restore.  If the error still occurs afterward, attempt to access the mailbox or mail items with a Mapi Client such as Outlook after the restore completes and review the following Microsoft Article also:
