Issue

Optimized duplications using OpenStorage plugin for DataDomain fails with status 83.

Solution

The OpenStorage plugin developed by DataDomain requires access to UDP port 111 and TCP 2049 (default port) on target DataDomain array. If there is a firewall separating the media server and target storage server, these ports need to be opened. Else optimized duplications to the target storage server will fail with status 83. This issue can be confirmed from media server's bpdm log during the attempt to initiate optimized duplications.

10:41:51.384 [6264.6348] <2> bpdm: source copy host is <source_storage_server>
11:12:21.348 [6264.6348] <16> <source_storage_server>: D:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\\ost-plugins\libstspiDataDomain.dll:stspi_open_server STS_EPLUGIN Can't connect to mountd on <target_storage_server> (: RPC: Port mapper failure - RPC: Timed out)

Here <source_storage_server> is the DataDomain array from which image is being duplicated.

<target_storage_server> is the DataDomain array to which image is being duplicated.

Solution:

The following are the firewall configuration requirements for backups and optimized duplications.

Optimized Duplication: 2049 (TCP), 111 (UDP or TCP depending on plugin version), mountd, 2051 (TCP)

Backup: 2049 (TCP), 111 (UDP or TCP depending on plugin version), mountd (random) but it can be set to a static port on DataDomain system.

Please contact DataDomain for information on how to configure a static mountd port on the DDOS system.
