Cannot start Discovery Accelerator (DA) Custodian Task or synchronize Custodians with Event ID 189 in the Enterprise Vault (EV) Event Log.

Solution



Overview:

Enterprise Vault (EV) Discovery Accelerator (DA) 8.0 has a new feature that allows using Active Directory (AD) or Lotus Domino accounts to be synchronized and used as targets for searches.  This new feature is named Custodian Manager (CM). CM is configured similar to a Discovery Customer from the EVBAAdmin site.  CM runs as a Customer Background Task (CBT) in the same manner as a Discovery Customer.

In new installations of DA 8.0, the CM CBT will not start.  Without the CBT starting, any users configured in CM will not synchronize with AD or the Domino directory.  Also, the following error will be thrown into the Enterprise Vault Event Log:

Solutions:

1) This issue has been resolved in Service Pack 1 for Discovery Accelerator 8.0.  Upgrade to DA8SP1.
2) A temporary workaround is to obtain an evaluation license or a Compliance Accelerator (CA) license until such time as upgrading to DA8SP1 can be completed.
