Getting Access Denied error while trying to make a backup selections for SQL 2005 and 2008 to create a job

Unable to make backup selections for SQL 2005 & 2008 to create a backup job, getting Access Denied error or Unable to query database message.


Error



While expanding the SQL Server Icon in Backup Exec the following error occurs:


Cause



Issue would occur if the backup account does not have the required permission for the SQL 2005 or 2008 instance and databases.
 


Solution



1) Open SQL Server Management Studio, expand "Security", right click on "Logins", select "New Login".
 
  
 2) Browse for the user being used to connect to and backup SQL from the domain.
 
  
 
3) In "Server Roles", select "sysadmin", "serveradmin" & "dbcreator". 
 
 
4) Click on "OK".
 
5) Re-try to create the backup job.
 

 
If you can login to SQL managment studio using BE Service Account  then try solution B:

 

Solution B:

 Enable TCP/IP & Named Pipes in SQL Server Configuration Manager.

# Click Start > Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2005 > Configuration Tools > SQL Server Configuration Manager.
# Under SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration > Protocols for MSSQLSERVER:
  1. Double-click the protocol name TCP/IP and set the property ENABLED to Yes.
  2. Double-click the protocol name Named Pipes and set the property ENABLED to Yes.
