While editing the properties of Remote agent Service, it prompts an error "Configuration Manager: The Specified device instance handle does not correspond to a present device."


Error



Configuration Manager: The Specified device instance handle does not correspond to a present device.

 


Cause



 This issue is seen

1) If a x32 bit remote agent is installed on a x64bit server using setupaa.cmd
2) x32 bit Remote agent Service runs fine on the x64bit server
3) In task Manager, it shows beremote.exe*32 and Vxmon.exe*32 on a x64 bit machine


Solution





To resolve this issue

1) Uninstall the x32 bit remote agent


2) Check in Add remove Programs or In Windows Cleanup Utility to uninstall the Remote Agent


3) If Remote agent is not visible in above utilities, Perform a Manual uninstall of remote agent.


a. Open Registry Editor
b. Browse to the following location and delete the registry keys

Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.

HKLM\Software\Symantec\Backup Exec,

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Backupexecagentaccelerator

4) Reboot the server

5) After rebooting the server perform a Push install of the Remote Agent.
