Problem
SharePoint Agent: How to add the Backup Exec Service Account (BESA) to the SharePoint Administrator Group on SharePoint Portal Server 2007 to resolve access denied errors
Solution
1. Click Start > Programs > Microsoft Office Server and launch the SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration Console
2. Select Operations in the SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration Console
3. In Security configuration select the option "Update farm administrator's group" (Figure 1)

4. Click New and Add users (Figure 2)

5. Type the BESA account name (Figure 3)

6. Under Give permission either select "Add users to a SharePoint group" or "Give users permission directly"
Note: This is applicable for "Access Denied" issues while selecting SharePoint databases in the selection list and running SharePoint backups or restores.
