Problem
The Veritas Enterprise Administrator (VEA) GUI fails if the Desktop folder is redirected by Group Policy
Error
Error Resource not Initialized
Solution
ISSUE:
If Storage
Foundation for Windows 5.1 (SFW) is installed on a node where the Desktop Folder
has been redirected to another server via Windows Group Policy; the VEA may not
load correctly as seen in Image 1.

CAUSE:
This is due to
a Java bug as described here:
VEA uses a
folder in the User Profile in order to house a cache of downloaded
plugins. The location of this folder is determined using the Java
"user.home" property. As the desktop has been re-directed, the incorrect
path is found and if the folder is also re-directed to another server there are
permission problems that cause the VEA to fail.
RESOLUTION:
This issue has
been identified and a workaround is available from Symantec Enterprise Technical
Support. To obtain the workaround, contact Symantec Enterprise Technical Support
and reference this article during the call. A support representative will be
available to assist in troubleshooting this issue. If it is determined that the
workaround addresses the problem the support representative will further assist
in obtaining the private fix.
****NOTE::::
This fix specifically addresses the problem identified above. It has not been
fully tested and should be applied in a test environment before placing into
production. If the systems are not critically impaired, it is recommended to
delay the installation of this private fix until the next scheduled maintenance
release. Before applying this private fix, systems may be required to be
upgraded to the latest code base. The support representative will help in
determining the best course of action.
