Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) based backup of Microsoft Exchange database to a Backup to Disk (B2D) Folder fails with error "Final error: 0xe00084af - The directory or file was not found, or could not be accessed" if compression is enabled on the B2D target hard disk.  Backup Exec writes the data to the B2D, but the job fails during the post-backup Verify operation when it is not able to read the data from the B2D Folder.

Cause



This error occurs if compression is enabled on the Backup to Disk folder where the Exchange backups are targeted.

 


Solution



A.  For Backup to Disk Folders 
  
1.  In Windows Explorer, browse to the location on the disk that corresponds with the B2D Folder being used in Backup Exec
2.  Right click on the B2D Folder select Properties.  
3.  On the General tab, click the Advanced button.
4.  Deselect the option "Compress contents to save disk space"
5.  In Backup Exec, go to Tools > Backup Exec Services and select "Restart all services"
 

B.  For Removable Backup to Disk Folder
 
1.  Go to My Computer
2.  Right click on the Drive that is specified for the Removable B2D Folder and select Properties
3.  On the General tab, deselect the option "Compress contents to save disk space"
4.  In Backup Exec, go to Tools > Backup Exec Services and select "Restart all services"
