Problem
Backup Exec for Windows Desktop and Laptop Option (DLO) clients cannot connect to the Media server and show as disabled. In addition, the pop up "The free 5 user limit for the Desktop and Laptop Option has been reached. Please purchase the Desktop and Laptop Option to enable additional users." may occur when the DLO console is launched
Error
"The free 5 user limit for the Desktop and Laptop Option has been reached. Please purchase the Desktop and Laptop Option to enable additional users."
Cause
- When a DLO is licensed for 'N' no of users and some of which may be disabled.
The following is example for a DLO site license of 10 users. As shown in the figure below, there are 15 users in DLO console and 5 are disabled. Not all of the enabled 10 users can connect to the media server. In addition, the pop up "The free 5 user limit for the Desktop and Laptop Option has been reached. Please purchase the Desktop and Laptop Option to enable additional users." may occur every time when the DLO console is launched.
No matter which user is disabled in DLO console, it is still an entry of a "DLO user" in the database. Therefore, the entry of disabled user is still counted as a "USER" in the DLO database. So there should be only the "n" number of users in DLO console where n = The number of users bundled in the Site license.
Solution
2. Backup the disabled user's data folder from the destination and make sure that only "# enabled" users exist in the DLO console as site license is for only # number of users.
Solution 2: If Net Backup Server or Client is also installed on the Backup Exec DLO server.
Check the Windows System path variable for entry to the Net Backup directory.
- set
This will display all of the environment variables defined in the system, including PATH
- path
This will only display the current path variable data.
Example: PATH=C:\Program Files\VERITAS\NetBackup\bin\;C:\WINDOWS\system32;
NOTE: If there is an entry in the path data for Net Backup, you will need to modify the path variable.
How to modify the System Path variable:
- Right-Click My Computer and choose Properties.
- Select the Advanced tab.Click on the Environment Variables button.
- Locate Path in the list System variables.
- Click Edit.Scroll to the far left of the Variable value box.
- Type in the path to your Backup Exec installation followed by a semicolon( ; ).
-
Example: PATH=C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec;C:\Program Files\VERITAS\NetBackup\bin\;%SystemRoot%\System32;
-
Click OK to save the changes.
-
Click OK to close Environment Variables and System Properties.
-
Restart the Backup Exec DLO services.
Please note:
If the "Free 5 user" option has been used before and a site license of 10 users is added later, it doesn't mean that 15 DLO clients can be backed up. Once a DLO License is installed, it disables the Free 5 users function and only 10 users can be backed up.
