Issue



How to enable the push install of the Backup Exec Remote Agent to a Windows 2008 Server Core Operating System.


Cause




To push-install Backup Exec to a computer that runs Windows Server 2008, certain items on the destination computer's Windows Firewall Exceptions list must be enabled:

 
  • File and Printer Sharing
  • Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)
  • Port 445 (NETBIOS)

Solution



Logon to the Windows 2008 Core Server and launch the Windows 2008 Core Server Command line.  Issue the following Commands at the Windows 2008 Server Core Command line:


Netsh Firewall Set service fileandprint enable
Netsh firewall set portopening tcp 445 smb enable
Netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group="windows management instrumentation (wmi)" new enable=yes
