BESR Email notifications have stopped working

Solution

Multiple servers running Backup Exec System Recovery had been set to provide email notifications of job completions, failures, and when the services were restarted. While it worked for some time, several servers abruptly stopped sending those notifications. No errors were generated on the console, and a support case was opened.
There were no errors reported in the BESR log. However it was noted in the Application Event Log that there were a large number of entries reporting that Symantec Mail Security had blocked a SPAM mail.
The Symantec Mail Security software was checked and an exception was made to allow the BESR email notifications to pass thru the SPAM filter. Once this was activated, the BESR notifications returned to full functionality.
In environments that run Symantec Mail Security, it should be checked as part of troubleshooting problems with email notifications from with Backup Exec System Recovery.
