Issue

Under some conditions, FSA cannot manage file servers that are clustered using Windows Server Failover Clustering. (Windows Server Failover Clustering was formerly known as Microsoft Cluster Server, or MSCS.)

When you run the FSA Cluster Configuration wizard you see the message "Failed to collect clustering data from file server". The following tables list the conditions under which the problem occurs, and any workaround, if available. The restrictions apply to both 32-bit and x64 versions of an operating system, where supported.

Error

Failed to collect clustering data from file server.

Solution

Enterprise Vault 10.0 original release

Administration Console operating system

Windows Server 2003

For example, install a standalone Administration Console on a node of the file server cluster or a Windows XP computer, and run the wizard from there.
Windows Server 2003
Windows XP*
Windows Server 2008
Run the FSA Cluster Configuration wizard from an Administration Console on Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, or Windows Vista.

For example, install a standalone Administration Console on a node of the file server cluster or a Windows 7 computer, and run the wizard from here.

* Note that with Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP, Enterprise Vault supports a standalone Administration Console only. Standalone Administration Consoles are supported on Windows 7 from Enterprise Vault 8.0 SP3 onwards.

For information on supported operating systems and required service packs for a standalone Administration Console, see “Requirements for a standalone Enterprise Vault Administration Console” in the Installing and Configuring manual.
