Unable to select a diskgroup when trying to add a Volume Manager Disk Group (VMDG) resource using Storage Foundations for Windows

Solution

Issue:
Unable to create a complete new VMDG resource in MSCS clustering service groups.
Wizard completes but does not bring up the Volume Manager Disk Group Parameters screen and the wizard completes and the resource is created but not pointing to any diskgroup.

Cause:
This scenario is possible if the vxresext.dll is not properly registered with the cluster.

Solution:

Refer to the related documents section for details on how to register Storage Foundation for Windows resource types in the Microsoft Cluster environment.

Note:

If the following message is received while trying to unregister the vxresext.dll

System error 193 has occurred (0x000000c1)

Error 0x583 formatting string for error code 0xc1

Using the err utility from Microsoft:

C:\Err>err 000000c1

# for hex 0xc1 / decimal 193 :

  ERROR_BAD_EXE_FORMAT                                          winerror.h

# %1 is not a valid Win32 application.

It may be necessary to:
- Ensure the MSCS option is installed and properly licensed

Or

- un-register the DLL's and re-register them.
