Issue

System state and shadow copy components of remote windows 2008 64-bit server with Equal Logic Array Utilities installed fail with error:

Error

V-79-57344-34108

An unexpected error occurred when cleaning up snapshot volumes. Confirm that all snapped volumes are correctly re-synchronized with the original volumes.

Environment

When checking the status of the VSS writers, some are found in a "waiting for completion" status. A reboot of the server will reset the writers; however, the next backup puts writers back into the same status.

Cause

Equal Logic Array Utilities software is not correctly installed.

Solution

  1. Confirm the Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider and Volume Shadow Copy services are stopped and set to manual.
  2. Confirm all of the VSS writers are showing "stable" and "no errors"
  3. Open a command prompt
  4. Type "vssadmin list writers" and press enter
  5. Disable all Equal Logic services in Windows Services
  6. Restart all Backup Exec services
  7. Run a backup of the system state and/or shadow copy components
