How to troubleshoot the error "Resources specified for snapshot do not have any valid data on them" which occurs when a backup is attempted


Error



V-79-57344-34070 - AOFO: Initialization failure. Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS). Snapshot provider erro0xe0008516 - Resources specified for snapshot do not have any valid data on them. Check if files were deleted or renamed.


Solution



FIRST:
Check the System Event Logs of the Source server the snapshot is occurring on. If there is a VSS or VOLSNAP error for the snapshot, the VSS error will have to be resolved.
Example, Snapshot error for high I/O.
If the VSS snapshot is not successful, then Backup Exec will not be able to read all of the data from the snapshot.



Continuous Protection Server (CPS):

An error "Resources specified for snapshot do not have any valid data on them. Check if files were deleted or renamed" occurs when backing up the Continuous Protection Server (CPS) Backup Destination with Backup Exec

Microsoft Virtual Server Agent (MSVS):
