A slow throughput is observed while running backup of a server that has McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i Patch 1 installed.

Solution

A tape based or disk based backup of a server running Mcafee VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i.is observed to run at a very less throughput (approximately to one-third of the original speed)  once the Patch 1 is installed for McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i.
To verify if the slowness of the backup job is as a result of the McAfee patch, stop McAfee services and re-run the backup job.

Solution:

1. Uninstall McAfee VirusScan 8.7i patch 1 from Add/Remove Programs.
2. Rerun the backup job and verify if the throughput for the backup job increases.

Note: Rollback of the patch 1 for McAfee VirusScan 8.7i may not remove all the files installed by the patch 1. If issue still persists then stop services for McAfee and verify the throughput.

If the throughput drop is caused due to the Patch 1, please Contact McAfee Technical Support for further assistance.
