Problem
Differential restore job of SQL database fails with the following error:
Error
V-79-57344-33938 - Database cannot be opened because it is offline
Cause
This occurs when the option: "leave database operational. No additional transaction logs can be restored." is checked while restoring the full backup set of SQL database and subsequent differential restore is attempted.
Solution
Restore a database by using either one job or multiple jobs.
In a single job restore, select all the backup sets, including the full backup, differential backups, and any log backups, to use to complete a full recovery. Also select the option:"leave database operational no additional transaction logs can be restored"
Note: Additional transaction logs cannot be restored after this restore job.
In a multiple job restore, restore each element (full backup, differential backup, log backups) separately but in a sequence of restore jobs.
On all but the last job, ensure that the option: "Leave database operational. No additional transaction logs can be restored" is NOT checked / enabled..
