GENERAL ERROR: Status Code 213 - No storage units available for use.

Error

MPXProvider returned Not Enough Valid Resources for request ID [set_host_and_dg_info_in_stu_list] could not get any media servers for storage unit

Solution

Error Code(s)/Message(s):

Error message in VxUL (OID 118 NBRB):
V-118-146 [ProviderManager::allocate] MPXProvider returned Not Enough Valid Resources for request ID [set_host_and_dg_info_in_stu_list] could not get any media servers for storage unit

Overview: The Status 213 is generated when the master fails to communicate with the media server.
The UNC path to the remote server was not a factor.

Troubleshooting:
The configuration for the basic disk storage unit indicates the media server and the remote server share.

\install_path\netbackup\bin\admincmd\bpstulist -L

Label:                Disk_Storage
Storage Unit Type:    Disk
Media Subtype:        Basic (1)

Verify the status of the basic disk storage unit with nbdevquery.

This Storage unit is DOWN because of the Storage Server mismatch.

Note: this can happen if DNS and/or hosts files improperly resolve the master_server by the media_server IP address and vice/versa.

Check aliases:
\install_path\netbackup\bin\admincmd\nbemmcmd -machinealias -getalias -machinename media_server -machinetype media
\install_path\netbackup\bin\admincmd\nbemmcmd -machinealias -getalias -machinename media_server -machinetype server
\install_path\netbackup\bin\admincmd\nbemmcmd -machinealias -getalias -machinename master_server -machinetype master
\install_path\netbackup\bin\admincmd\nbemmcmd -machinealias -getalias -machinename master_server -machinetype media
\install_path\netbackup\bin\admincmd\nbemmcmd -machinealias -getalias -machinename master_server -machinetype server
    ...or:
nbemmcmd -machinealias -getaliases -machinetype media -machinename media_server

nbemmcmd -machinealias -getaliases -machinetype server -machinename media_server

nbemmcmd -machinealias -getaliases -machinetype media -machinename master_server

nbemmcmd -machinealias -getaliases -machinetype server -machinename master_server

nbemmcmd -machinealias -getaliases -machinetype master -machinename master_server

Note: These commands listed the master_server as an alias for the media_server and the media_server as an alias for the master_server.

Resolution:
1. Ensure a recent hot catalog backup completed successfully before proceeding.

2. Delete the media_server disk storage unit.

3. Delete the alias where -alias points to the alias name you want to remove that is improper.

\install_path\netbackup\bin\admincmd\nbemmcmd -machinealias -deletealias -alias master_server -machinetype media

nbemmcmd -machinealias -deletealias -alias media_server -machinetype media

nbemmcmd -machinealias -deletealias -alias master_server -machinetype media

nbemmcmd -machinealias -deletealias -alias master_server -machinetype media

nbemmcmd -machinealias -deletealias -alias media_server -machinename master_server -machinetype server

4. Create a new disk storage unit.

5. Verify storageserver:
nbdevquery -listdp -stype BasicDisk
