Error "LU1812: A program that was part of this update failed when it ran. This update was not applied " while running LiveUpdate


Error



 
While Running LiveUpdate in Backup Exec 12.5, the installation starts and failed to update. It fails with error "LU1812: A program that was part of this update failed when it ran. This update was not applied" as figure 1.

Try to manually run the patch file and get "Error 1606.Could not access network location \" as figure 2.

The Installation log bkupinst.htm in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Backup Exec\Logs reports the following error:
 
ERROR: Error 1606.Could not access network location \. 
 
And

 V-225-136: The patch failed to install. An alert was unable to be generated to notify the user.

Solution



 
1. Check the registry key.
 
Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes
 
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\12.5\Install]
 
"Path"=""
 
Check the exact installation path of Backup Exec and modify the registry key "Path" with right path value.
 
2. End all the Backup Exec process before installing LiveUpdate.
