Issue

During a restore of deduplicated files to an EMC Celerra filer, error: "Final error: 0xe000130a - The NDMP server returned a restore error." is received.

Error

Upon reviewing the Backup Exec job log as well as the NDMP log on the EMC Celerra filer, the error detailing the issue is:

"NDMP Log Message: Unable to perform a single file restore on a deduplicated file. Perform a full VBB restore on a separate file system and copy the deduplicated files that you want."

Cause

As per EMC, "You can back up Celerra Data Deduplication-enabled file systems by using Celerra NVB and restore in full. However, Celerra does not support a single-file or file-by-file restore of deduplicated files from NVB backups. EMC recommends the use of NVB backups of deduplicated file systems as part of a strategy where a single-file or file-by-file restore is done from locally or remotely replicated SnapSure checkpoints and not from 'tape."

Solution

NDMP Volume Backup (NVB) is commonly known as Volume Based Backup (VBB).

In the Backup job  Under Setting - NDMP -  Select Backup Type as  Dump, instead of VBB.
And  check  "Back up with integrated checkpoints (SnapSure)"  As  Shown  below.

For steps on How to Perform a NVB/Full Destructive restore please follow the steps in the technote below:
