Unable to read an exported MSG message using Outlook 2000.

Solution

MSG items can be created three ways

1.  When in review mode, you click the “Download Original Item” button. This function opens a local temporary copy of the item in its native format on the reviewer's local box (Client)
2.  Export to MSG.  When exporting to MSG, Outlook 2003 must be on the Accelerator server.  The resultant MSG's require Outlook 2003 to view them.
3.  Export to PST.  This allows the choice of creating an ANSI or Unicode PST.  in order to export to PST, requires Outlook on the Accelerator Server.  If using Outlook 2000, ANSI mode PST must be used.

How to change PST's to export in ANSI mode:

Version 7 and 2007:

  • Open the Accelerator GUI
  • Select System Configuration under Application Administration
  • Select Export/production under the drop down menu
  • Uncheck “Default to Unicode for PST and MSG” under the value column
  • Select the right OK option
  • Select the bottom OK

Version 8:
Outlook 2000 is not supported in version 8
