Welcome to the NetBackup 7.x Upgrade Portal!


Solution



The NetBackup 7.x Upgrade Portal contains important information regarding upgrading to NetBackup 7.x.  NetBackup 6.x (NBU) reached End of Support Life (EOSL) on October 3, 2012. To receive continued support and the full benefit of "Better backup for all," upgrade to NetBackup 7. The key points contained below offer guidance and suggestions to help guide customers to a successful upgrade experience.  The information below is continuously reviewed and will be updated with additional details as and when they become available.
 
The Upgrade Portal contains details on the following releases:
 
NetBackup 7.6.1 – This version of NetBackup went FA in November 2014!
 
NetBackup 7.6 – This version of NetBackup went GA in December 2013!
 
NetBackup 7.5 – This version of NetBackup went GA in March 2012! 
 
NetBackup 7.1 – This version of NetBackup went GA in March of 2011 with a solid feature set improved with key proliferations and product improvements in maintenance packs. Learn about what is new with NetBackup 7.1!

NetBackup 7.6.1 :

              Key Notes:

2. Before starting the upgrade to NetBackup 7.6.1, run a Catalog Backup.
 
3. Upgrade to NetBackup 7.6.1 can occur from all NetBackup 7.x versions. OpsCenter should be updated first, followed by the NetBackup Master Server, then Media Servers, then Clients.
 
4 NetBackup 7.6.1 upgrades the NetBackup Media Server Deduplication databse. This is a multistep process that may impact installation and operational performance until complete. Please review the  NetBackup 7.6.1 Upgrade Guide for more details: http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC7667

NetBackup 7.6 :

 
Key Notes:
1. Before starting upgrading to NetBackup 7.6, run a Catalog Backup.
 
2. Upgrade to NetBackup 7.6 can occur from all NetBackup 6.x and NetBackup 7.x versions. OpsCenter should be updated first, followed by the NetBackup Master Server, then Media Servers, then Clients.
 
3. NetBackup 7.6 migrates the NetBackup catalog image header information into the Netbackup relational database. This is a multistep process that may impact installation and operational performance until complete. 4. With NetBackup 7.x, all Unix/Linux 32-bit support has been discontinued. Customers with 32-bit master servers can perform the following:
A. Move to a Netbackup Appliance

NetBackup 7.5 :

 
Key Notes:
1. Before starting upgrading to NetBackup 7.5, run a Catalog Backup.
 
2.   Symantec recommends that the consistency of the NetBackup EMM and BMR databases is validated and verified prior to performing the upgrade to NetBackup 7.5. http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH126758
 
3. Upgrade to NetBackup 7.5 can occur from all NetBackup 6.x and NetBackup 7.x versions. OpsCenter should be updated first, followed by the NetBackup Master Server, then Media Servers, then Clients.
 
 
4.  NetBackup 7.5 Maintenance Release 7 (7.5.0.7) should be applied immediately after the 7.5 installation has been completed.  NetBackup 7.5.0.7 download information can be found at the following link:

NetBackup 7.0

This version of NetBackup went GA in Febuary of 2010.  Customers considering this upgrade are encouraged to move to NetBackup 7.1 or 7.5.
