Mailbox Archive job fails with error "The Microsoft Exchange mailbox store for the system mailbox that is associated with the Exchange Server is not online."


Error



When a Mailbox archive job is configured and it runs, it may fail with the following error message.
 

Final error: 0xe0009918 - The Microsoft Exchange mailbox store for the system mailbox that is associated with the Exchange Server is not online.

The job log also shows the below error when the job fails.



Cause



This suggest that the GRT (Granular Recovery Technology) backup for the Microsoft Information Store either failed or was not performed properly and so the archive job is not able to find any backup sets for the mailboxes selected.

Figure below shows that GRT backup was not performed properly even though it may be successful.


Solution



 
1. Verify that the GRT backup job was successful on a Backup To Disk folder.

2. Check the restore selections, to ensure that it is possible to browse through the individual mailboxes.

3. Re- run the archive job for required Mailbox after confirming that GRT backup job on B2D is successful and shows individual items under restore selections.
