How to inject new driver into Intelligent Disaster Recovery (IDR) bootable ISO image

Solution



Intelligent Disaster Recovery (IDR) bootable ISO image is customizable with the following steps:
This is an useful method to inject new driver into the ISO image in advance for eliminating user intervention to load the driver during IDR.


1. Copy the driver file and the .inf file onto the media server.

2. Run IDR preparation wizard by clicking [Tools] -> [Wizards] -> [Intelligent Disaster Recovery Preparation Wizard] menu.

3. Proceed until 'Creating Disaster Recovery Image' screen.

4. Click the right mouse button at the progress bar holding down CTRL and Shift keys.
Note: The wizard will display a message "User requested a pause before the image creation process" shortly after this click. (Figure 1)

5. A dialog having the staged path information will pop up. (Figure 2)
Caution: DO NOT press the [OK] button until step 8.

For instance:
C:\Users\ADMINI~1\AppData\Local\Temp\2\MyIDRCD1\i386\

6. Open an Explorer for the staged path.

7. Copy the driver file and the .inf file into three subfolders (\system32, \system32\drivers, and \INF) of the staged path.

For instance:
C:\Users\ADMINI~1\AppData\Local\Temp\2\MyIDRCD1\i386\system32\
C:\Users\ADMINI~1\AppData\Local\Temp\2\MyIDRCD1\i386\system32\drivers\
C:\Users\ADMINI~1\AppData\Local\Temp\2\MyIDRCD1\i386\INF\

8. Press [OK] button of the step 5's dialog for finishing IDR preparation wizard.

9. Burn the created idrcd.iso bootable image to CD-R.

10. Boot up the target system from the CD-R to perform IDR.
