This TechFile provides information about the Array Support Library for IBM XIV Array (Active/Active) on VERITAS Volume Manager 5.0, 5.0MPx and 5.0RU1 for Linux

ASL Package Description:  Array Support Library for IBM XIV series arrays
ASL Package Version: 2.0
Supported versions of Veritas Volume Manager:  5.0, 5.0MPx and 5.0  RU1
Supported Arrays: IBM XIV (A/A)

Installation Instructions:
1. Create a directory to store ASL package
# mkdir /tmp/asl
# cd /tmp/asl

2. At the bottom of this TechFile, click on Download Now to download the ASL package to /tmp/asl

3. After downloading VRTSIBM-XIV-5.0-2.0_Linux.tar_337759.gz, verify checksum of the file
# cksum VRTSIBM-XIV-5.0-2.0_Linux.tar_337759.gz
2702728704 30621 VRTSIBM-XIV-5.0-2.0_Linux.tar_337759.gz

4. Unzip the file and extract the rpm packages
# gunzip VRTSIBM-XIV-5.0-2.0_Linux.tar_337759.gz
# tar -xvf VRTSIBM-XIV-5.0-2.0_Linux.tar_337759

 
Note: Verify that there are five rpm packages as part of the tar ball. There is one ASL package per distribution
 
VRTSIBM-XIV-5.0-2.0_RHEL4.i686.rpm
 
VRTSIBM-XIV-5.0-2.0_RHEL5.i686.rpm
 
VRTSIBM-XIV-5.0-2.0_SLES9.i586.rpm
 
VRTSIBM-XIV-5.0-2.0_SLES10.i586.rpm
 
VRTSIBM-XIV-5.0-2.0_SLES11.x86_64.rpm
 

 
Following are the installation instructions for RHEL5 distribution
 
Similar steps can be followed for other distributions (RHEL4/ SLES9 / SLES10/ SLES11)
 

5. Before adding any ASL package, ensure Veritas Volume Manager is installed and enabled
# vxdctl mode
mode: enabled

6. ASL Installation:
# rpm -ivh VRTSIBM-XIV-5.0-2.0_RHEL5.i686.rpm
Preparing...                ########################################### [100%]
  1:VRTSIBM-XIV            ########################################### [100%]
Adding the entry in supported arrays
Loading The Library

7. After the package is installed, you must execute the vxdctl enable command to claim the disk array

# vxdctl enable

Note: In some cases, it has been reported that the installation of the ASL and/or APM does not
take effect and vxdctl enable does not claim the enclosure and devices. In such cases, you can
execute the vxconfigd -k command in addition to vxdctl enable.

8. After executing vxdctl enable, verify the output of the vxddladm listsupport command
# vxddladm listsupport libname=libvxxiv.so
ATTR_NAME           ATTR_VALUE
============================
LIBNAME             libvxxiv.so
VID                 IBM
PID                 2810XIV
ARRAY_TYPE          A/A
ARRAY_NAME          XIV

9. Check ASL version
# vxddladm listversion libname=libvxxiv.so
libvxxiv.so has version string: vm-5.0-rev-2. VXVM version: 5.0
