How to restore the group policy without restoring the active directory

Solution

Group Policy Object (GPO) can be restored when desired from the system state backup without restoring the system state.

The procedure listed below is only for recovery of the GPO.

1. From the Restore Selections in Backup Exec console, select the entire System State from the appropriate server to be restored.

2. From the Destination | File Redirection screen, select File Redirection. Select the drive and directory to restore to.

3. Click Run Now. A warning will appear.

4. Click OK

Once the restore has completed, the System State will be in the directory specified. For this TechNote, the sample directory is C:\SSRESTORE.

In the C:\SSRESTORE\Registry directory, there will be six files.
