What SharePoint 2007 and 2010 resources can be redirected with the Backup Exec SharePoint Agent?

Only the following resources can be redirected in a restore job with the Backup Exec SharePoint Agent.  These resources are relevant to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS) and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 (WSS). This is also relevant to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2010, and SharePoint Foundation 2010.  See the notes accompanying each SharePoint resource.
  • Web Applications/Content Databases:  The top level database backups for MOSS/WSS Web Applications can be redirected.  The target Web Application can be either in a separate MOSS/WSS farm or within the same SharePoint farm if the original content database no longer exists in that farm. Note that the target Web Application must be configured with the same number of content databases as the Web Application that was backed up and all content databases for that Web Application should be restored. In Backup Exec 2010 R3 the ability was added so that a Content database can be redirected to an alternate SQL instance. By performing this type of restore operation, the content DB will be available from an unattached content database. Note that the content database for the WSS_Administration Web Application should not be redirected. Redirecting the restore of SharePoint Web Application databases must be done via the SharePoint redirection properties not the SQL redirection properties.
  • GRT Selections.  This includes Sites/Sub-Sites/Document Libraries/Lists, etc.  These resources may only be redirected to a file location by providing the directory path in the redirection tab of the Restore Job Properties.  The file path specified in the redirect restore job must be on a Sharepoint Web Portal server.  Note that since there is no substance to any GRT selections other than documents, if a redirected restore of anything but documents is performed, an empty file or folder will result.  List items with attached files/documents can be redirected to obtain the attachments.
