Virus definitions revert to an older definition set when Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition is installed with another Norton or Symantec antivirus product

Problem
You have Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition installed with Norton AntiVirus for Exchange (NAVMSE), Norton AntiVirus for Gateways (NAVGW), Norton AntiVirus for Lotus Notes (NAV Notes) or Symantec AntiVirus/Filtering for Domino. After running LiveUpdate, the virus definitions are rolled back to an older version.
Cause
VDTM setting the definitions to the set in use on the Primary NAV CE server
Solution
When you are using the Virus Definition Transport Method to update the NAVCE clients on your network, the NAVCE parent server controls the virus definitions used by the NAVCE clients. If a NAVCE client has newer definitions than the parent server, then the definitions will revert to an older definition set. A newer virus definition set can be detected when running LiveUpdate from within the NAVGW, NAVMSE, NAV Notes or Symantec AV/Filter for Domino interface. This will cause a newer set of virus definitions to be installed, but the NAVCE client will revert back to the older definition set when it checks in with the NAVCE server. The virus definition sets are shared by all Symantec and Norton antivirus products.
If you installed a NAVCE client on the same server as NAVGW, NAVMSE, NAV Notes or Symantec AV/Filter for Domino, there are two ways to work around this problem:
- Update the definitions on the NAVCE parent server. This will enable the NAVCE client to obtain the latest definitions from the parent server. Once NAVCE has obtained the latest definitions, NAVMSE and NAVGW will use the updated definition set.
- Uninstall the NAVCE managed client and install a NAVCE unmanaged client. This will enable NAVCE to update virus definitions without depending on a parent server.
