Preventing a scan of the Queues folder by Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition

Problem
A currently supported version of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition is on your Symantec Mail Security 4 for SMTP server. The Symantec corporate product scans the Queues folder for Symantec Mail Security 4 for SMTP. The scan causes processing problems. You need to know how to exclude the Queues folder from scans.
Symptoms
Preventing a scan of the Queues folder by Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition A currently supported version of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition is on your Symantec Mail Security 4 for SMTP server. The Symantec corporate product scans the Queues folder for Symantec Mail Security 4 for SMTP. The scan causes processing problems. You need to know how to exclude the Queues folder from scans.
Solution
To exclude the Queues folder for Symantec SMTP in Symantec AntiVirus, use the following sections .
Note: Symantec recommends the installation of the current version of Symantec AntiVirus as an unmanaged client on the same computer running a Symantec SMTP product. Symantec AntiVirus is recommended for two reasons. It can exclude files before a scan. The second reason is that Virus Sweeps and Scheduled Server Group Scan do not interrupt the flow of email.
To exclude the Queues folder for a Scan from within Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10
- Start Symantec AntiVirus.
- In the left pane, click Scan.
- Do one of the following:
- Click Custom Scan.
- Click Quick Scan.
- Click Full Scan.
- In the right pane, click Options.
- In the Scan Options dialog box, check Exclude files and folders, and then click Exclusions.
- In the Exclusions dialog box, click Files/Folders.
- In the Select Items dialog box, expand Local Disk > Program Files > Symantec > SMSSMTP > Queues.
This path is the default path. If you installed Symantec Mail Security for SMTP into a location other than the default location, browse to the Queues folder. - Check the Queues folder.
- Click OK.
- In the Exclusions dialog box, click OK.
- In the Scan Options dialog box, click Save Settings
- Click OK..
To exclude the Queues folder for File System Auto-Protect from within Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10
- Start Symantec AntiVirus.
- In the left pane, click Configure, and then click File System Auto-Protect.
- In the right pane, check Exclude selected files and folders and then click Exclusions.
- In the Exclusions dialog box, click Files/Folders.
- On the Select Items dialog box, expand Local Disk > Program Files > Symantec > SMSSMTP > Queues.
This path is the default path. If you installed Symantec Mail Security for SMTP into a location other than the default location, browse to the Queues folder. - Check the Queues folder.
- Click OK.
- In the Exclusions dialog box, click OK.
- In the Symantec AntiVirus dialog box, click OK.
- Start Symantec AntiVirus.
- In the left pane, click Scheduled Scans.
- In the right pane, click on a scheduled scan.
- Click Edit
- On the Scan dialog box, click Options.
- In the Scan Options dialog box, check Exclude files and folders and then click Exclusions.
- In the Exclusions dialog box, click Files/Folders
- In the Select Items dialog box, expand Local Disk > Program Files > Symantec > SMSSMTP > Queues.
This path is the default path. If you installed Symantec Mail Security for SMTP into a location other than the default location, browse to the Queues folder. - Check the Queues folder.
- Click OK.
- In the Select Items dialog box, click OK.
- In the Exclusions dialog box, click OK.
- On the Scan Options dialog box click Save Settings and then click OK.
Note: Exclude the Queues folder for Startup Scans and User-defined scans. If you have a version of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition prior to version 10 the steps may be different.
