Symptoms
Error: "Private key does not match the certificate public key displays" when claiming an SSL certificate When attempting to claim the SSL certificate for any Symantec licensed product , you receive the following message: "Private key does not match the certificate public key".

Solution

The two known sources for this error are:
  • Invalid SSL Certificate
When a signed certificate is made, the certificate request must originate in the application that the certificate it is being used for. For example a certificate request created in SAVSMTP will not work with SWS.
  • Fully Qualified Host Name
Failing to place the Fully Qualified Host Name in the common name field can trigger this error.
