Removing Symantec Mail Security 4.x for Domino when Add/Remove programs does not work

Symantec recommends uninstalling Symantec Mail Security 4.x for Domino through Add/Remove programs or the Start menu, after first stopping the Domino Server and closing the Notes client.

When an installation does not complete correctly, it may be necessary to manually uninstall the Symantec Mail Security product.


Solution



To manually uninstall Symantec Mail Security 4.x for Domino, follow all of the procedures in the order given.

To remove the nnem.dll from the Notes.ini
  1. Shut down the Domino Server, but do not shut down Windows.
  2. Open Notes.ini, and make these changes in the following lines:
To remove files and folders
  1. Browse to the Domino data directory (default: c:\Lotus\Domino\Data\)
  2. Delete the Sav directory.
    Delete the following .ntf files, which are the templates used by the database files (.nsf) located in the data directory:
    Savdefs.ntf
    Savlog.ntf
    Savquar.ntf
    Sav.ntf
  3. Remove the following files from the Domino application directory:
    ccAntiSp.dll
    CFRuleEng.dll
    contentfilter.dll
    Dec2.dll
    Dec2AMG.dll
    Dec2ARJ.dll
    Dec2AS.dll
    Dec2CAB.dll
    Dec2EXE.dll
    Dec2GZIP.dll
    Dec2ID.dll
    Dec2LHA.dll
    Dec2LZ.dll
    Dec2MB3.dll
    Dec2RAR.dll
    Dec2RTF.dll
    Dec2SS.dll
    Dec2TAR.dll
    Dec2Text.dll
    Dec2TNEF.dll
    Dec2Zip.dll
    DecSDK.dll

    icuin22.dll

  4. Remove the Symantec Mail Security for Domino folder from the Start menu.



WARNING: Symantec strongly recommends that you back up the system registry before making any changes. Incorrect changes to the registry could result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify only the keys specified. See the document How to back up the Windows registry before proceeding.


To remove Symantec registry keys
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
  2. In the Open: field, type:
    regedit.exe
  3. Click OK.
  4. In the left pane, navigate to the following subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Symantec\
  5. Delete the key Symantec Mail Security for Domino. 
  6. Click Registry > Exit.
    This saves the changes and closes the Registry Editor.
  7. If no other Symantec software is installed, delete the Licenses and Virusdefs folders. The default install location:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared
If Symantec Mail Security 4.x for Domino is the only Symantec application installed, you can remove the Symantec Shared folder.
