Issue

You need to know the installed version and/or patch level for Symantec Brightmail AntiSpam (SBAS) or Symantec Brightmail Message Filter (SBMF).

Solution

It is necessary to know the installed version and patches for SBAS or SBMF when troubleshooting issues. Use the section that is appropriate to your installation to determine the version or patches of the components that are installed.

Scanner:

    • To determine the Scanner Version and Patch Level on Linux/Solaris™
The SBAS/SBMF version and patch level can be determined by running the following tool on the shell prompt of the SBAS/SMBF scanner:
      versionFinder.sh

To use this tool type the following command at the shell prompt:
        sh versionFinder.sh

The results of this tool will output results similar to the following:
        /opt/symantec/sbas/Scanner/bin/av_cleaner
        bmiversion-6-0-5-190
        /opt/symantec/sbas/Scanner/bin/bmifilter
        bmiversion-6-0-5-24
        /opt/symantec/sbas/Scanner/bin/bmserver
        bmiversion-6-0-5-24
        /opt/symantec/sbas/Scanner/bin/conduit
        bmiversion-6-0-5-190
        /opt/symantec/sbas/Scanner/bin/harvester
        bmiversion-6-0-5-24
        /opt/symantec/sbas/Scanner/bin/kicker
        bmiversion-6-0-5-24
These results show the version and patch level for each component installed on the SBMF scanner.
The version number is displayed in the first set of 3 numbers. In the above example the version of the product is 6.0.5.
The patch level is determined by examining the last number in the version string for each component. The above example shows that patch 190 has been installed on this server.
    • To determine the Scanner Version and Patch Level on Windows
      1. Start Windows Explorer.
      2. Open the following Brightmail folder:

Symantec Brightmail AntiSpam version 6.0.2 and newer
        <Drive>:\Program Files\Symantec\SBAS\Scanner\Bin
      3. Right-click the conduit.exe file, and click Properties.
      4. Click the Version tab.
      5. For each of the following files listed below, follow steps 3 & 4 to verify the version information for each:

The SBAS/SBMF version and patch level can be determined by running the following tool on the shell prompt of the SBAS/SMBF scanner:
      versionFinder.sh
To use this tool type the following command at the shell prompt:
        sh versionFinder.sh

The results of this tool will output results similar to the following:
        /opt/symantec/sbas/Scanner/bin/av_cleaner
        bmiversion-6-0-5-190
        /opt/symantec/sbas/Scanner/bin/bmifilter
        bmiversion-6-0-5-24
        /opt/symantec/sbas/Scanner/bin/bmserver
        bmiversion-6-0-5-24
        /opt/symantec/sbas/Scanner/bin/conduit
