You want to know more about the custom disclaimers feature in Symantec Mail Security for SMTP 4.0.

Solution

This page contains the following information about custom disclaimers.

  • To enable custom disclaimers
  • When is a disclaimer attached to an email?
  • How is the disclaimer attached?

To enable custom disclaimers

  • Open the Administration screen for Symantec Mail Security for SMTP
  • Click Configuration -> Setup
  • Under "Custom Disclaimer," place a check mark next to "Enter text to be included in every scanned message."

Please use only ASCII characters in the space provided. Extended character sets, such as DBCS, may not display correctly at the destination email client.

When is a disclaimer attached to an email?
When mail is passed through the Symantec Mail Security for SMTP server, that is bound for an email domain that is not listed in the Local Routing list, the disclaimer will be appended.  Disclaimers are not attached to emails bound for domains on the local routing list.  There is no supported means to attach disclaimers to all emails.

How is the disclaimer attached?
When a disclaimer is attached to the text portion of an email, the text is re-encoded in base64 using a specific character set, to ensure correct display of the text on the eventual destination client.
