Connection errors show when a software update check is made after an upgrade to version 4.1.2-24 on a Symantec Mail Security 8200 Series appliance

The software on the Symantec Mail Security 8200 Series appliance has been updated to version 4.1.2-24. Connection errors are received when trying to perform a software update check.

When attempting to access the Software Update page in the user interface an error is produced. The error text reads:

    "Cannot retrieve the available software versions. Err E: Could not get lock /data/apt/state/lists/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable) E: Unable to lock the list directory "

The following sequence of messages when the "update list" is run from the Command Line Interface (CLI):


The URL for software update has changed in version 4.1.2-24 from to Configure your firewall to allow port 443 outbound access from the appliance to this new URL ( in addition to the existing URL ( Rule sets continue to be downloaded from the original URL.
