Issue

You have updated to McAfee ePO v3.61 using MS SQL Server 2005 as the database and want to know if the collector will use the new MS SQL Server 2005 JDBC driver.

Solution

We have tested the collector with ePO 3.6.1 running on both MS SQL Server 2000 and MS SQL Server 2005. The collector will work with ePO 3.6.1 running on MS SQL Server 2005, but the following changes are required:

      1. Download the current Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver 1.1 from Microsoft and install it on the same machine that is running the McAfee ePO Event Collector v3.7

      2. The JDBC Driver Files Directory property in the collector's sensor configuration must be changed to point to the path containing the sqljdbc.jar
      file installed in Step 1.

      3. The Database URL property in the collector's sensor configuration must be changed to use the syntax used by the new driver
      jdbc:sqlserver://*hostname*:1433;DatabaseName=epo_DB; instead of the URL jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://*hostname*:1433;DatabaseName=epo_DB;
      used by the older driver.

      4. Edit the collector's config.xml file and change this line

      <prop key="JdbcDriverFiles">msbase.jar;mssqlserver.jar;msutil.jar</prop>

      to

      <prop key="JdbcDriverFiles">sqljdbc.jar</prop>

      5. Restart the agent.
