Changing the database driver information in order for the Symantec ESM Event Collector to read from an Oracle requires making changes in 2 places:

    1) The config.xml on the machine running the Collector;
    2) The DB Sensor tab of the Collector configuration in the SSIM client.

    Before making these changes:
    1) Stop the SSIM Agent/SESA Agent on the collector machine.
    2) Make a backup copy of the collector's config.xml file

    config.xml changes:
The config.xml file used by the collector is located in the collectors\symcesm subdirectory of the SSIM Agent/SESA Agent directory, which is c:\Program Files\Symantec\Event Agent by default.

The config.xml file used by the collector needs to be edited with a text editor, e.g. Notepad, to change 2 values:
    1) The JDBCDriverFiles property, which is/are the name of the .jar file(s) used by the JDBC driver.
The default entry (for the MS SQL Server 2000 JDBC Driver)looks like this
    <prop key="JdbcDriverFiles">msbase.jar;mssqlserver.jar;msutil.jar</prop>

    2) The corresponding DatabaseDriver property value, which is the Java class name of the driver.
The default entry (for the MS SQL Server 2000 JDBC Driver)looks like this:
    <prop key="DatabaseDriver">com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver</prop>

For Oracle these entries should look like this:
    <prop key="JdbcDriverFiles">ojdbc14.jar</prop>

    <prop key="DatabaseDriver">oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver</prop>

Save the config.xml file after making the changes and close the text editor.

Sensor changes in the Configuration of the ESM Collector:

The Database URL and JDBC Drivers Directory properties in the DB Sensor tab of the Collector configuration need to be modified to reflect
    1) the URL syntax used by the Oracle JDBC drivers
    2) the location of the Oracle JDBC drivers on the collector machine

    1) Database URL:
For Oracle, this should look like this:
jdbc:oracle:thin:@IP Address or hostname of Oracle Server:Portnumber of Oracle Server (default is 1521):Database name (probably ESM)

    2) JDBC Drivers Directory

For Oracle change this value to the directory containing the JDBC driver .jar and/or .zip file(s).

Save the configuration and distribute it.

Restart the SSIM/SESA Agent on the Collector machine.
You may need to re-distribute the configuration from the SSIM Client once the SSIM/SESA Agent has been restarted.

For DB2, this should look like this:
    jdbc:db2://IP Address or hostname of DB@ Server:Portnumber of DB2 Serve/Database nam(probably ESM)

    2) JDBC Drivers Directory

For either Oracle or DB2, change this value to the directory containing the JDBC driver .jar and/or .zip file(s).

Save the configuration and distribute it.

Restart the SSIM/SESA Agent on the Collector machine.
You may need to re-distribute the configuration from the SSIM Client once the SSIM/SESA Agent has been restarted.
