Issue

You want to register your Symantec Brightmail Message Filter Application using a Symantec SLF license.

Solution

To activate your product, you will need a valid Symantec license file. To receive a license file you must register your Symantec software serial numbers. See the KB Licensing Symantec Brightmail AntiSpam 6.X for details on obtaining a license.

To install license file in a Windows environment:
  1. Run the regwizard.exe tool from the installation path for Symantec Brightmail Message Filter. The default location of the wizard is C:\Program Files\Symantec\SBAS\Scanner\Bin\regwizard.exe
  2. Use the Browse button to locate the .slf file.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Click Finish to complete registration.

Note: During the installation process of Symantec Brightmail Message Filter it will automatically run the registration wizard that is used to install the license file. However, this wizard does not appear in the main Web interface of the product. At any other time, run the registration wizard manually to install new licenses.

To Install the License file in a Linux environment:
  1. As root user, from the/opt/symantec/sbas/Scanner/sbin directory, run the registration script:
    • $ su root
    • #cd/opt/Symantec/sbas/Scanner/sbin
    • #register.sh
  2. At the prompt, enter the absolute path to the location of your .slf file. (e.g. /home/user/license.slf)
  3. Press Enter.

Note: During the installation process of Symantec Brightmail Message Filter it will automatically run the registration wizard that is used to install the license file. However, this wizard does not appear in the main Web interface of the product. At any other time, run the registration wizard manually to install new licenses.
