DB 3.1 Patch P0800011 README                                   May 13, 1998
==============================================================================

Description:

This patch replaces the /usr/openv/netbackup/dbext/install_dbext script that
is used to install DB Extensions on a NetBackup client machine. It corrects
an abort problem that only occurs on a NetBackup clients with the following
message:
      /usr/openv/netbackup/version not found.
      Aborted.
The existing install_dbext script uses the server version file to get platform
information that does not exist if only client software is installed.
The patch looks for the correct client version file in /usr/openv/netbackup/bin
directory.

The following files are included in this patch:
      install_dbext

Installation Instructions:

Please read all of the following before proceeding.

As root on the NetBackup client:

1. Get the patch to the /tmp directory on your NetBackup client.
   cd /tmp
  Acquire patchP0800011.tar.Z via ftp.

2. Install the new script.

      cd /usr/openv/netbackup/dbext
      /bin/tar -xvf /tmp/patchP0800011.tar

DB 3.1.1GA Patch F0800156  README                            June 24, 1999
==============================================================================
DESCRIPTION:
This is a re-release of NetBackup for DB2 with the following
      fix and enhancement:

       1) Added a 'NORETRY' parameter to db2.conf file to enhance the
operation of db2uext2 program.  Without this parameter in the
db2.conf file, when a backup of an archivelog failed it will
retry in 5 minutes by default.  If the keyword 'NORETRY' is
added to the db2.conf file, a failed archivelog backup will
not be retried.  It only retries when the database manager is
          closed and reopened again.

       2) Corrected a bug that occured when db2 requested a backup of an
archivelog that had been previously backed up.  This resulted in
NetBackup erroring with a 71 since the archivelog was already
           backed up and deleted.

Includes patch F0800074:
3.1.1 release of NetBackup for DB2.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

To install NetBackup for DB2, you must install the following software.

 1. NetBackup on the NetBackup server and also on the client where you will
be using NetBackup for DB2 to back up databases. Refer to Install
    NetBackup on page 12.
 2. NetBackup for DB2 on the client where you will be backing up the
databases. Refer to Install NetBackup for DB2 on page 12.
For the DB2 version level supported, refer to the Database Extension
Matrix in Chapter 4, Supported Platforms and Peripherals of the
NetBackup and Media Manager Release Notes - UNIX.

Install NetBackup
 Server
Install the NetBackup software on the server. See the NetBackup and Media
Manager Release Notes - UNIX for installation instructions.
The NetBackup server platform can be any of those that NetBackup supports.
 Client
Install the NetBackup software on the client where you will be backing up
the databases. See the NetBackup and Media Manager Release Notes - UNIX for
   installation instructions.

   --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: In an MPP DB2 environment, NetBackup for DB2 and the NetBackup
client must be installed on every client used by DB2.
   --------------------------------------------------------------------------

 Install NetBackup for DB2
There are two basic steps to installing NetBackup for DB2:
   1. Load the Software onto the Client.
   2. Run the Installation Script on the Client.
   This section describes each procedure.

Load the Software onto the Client
NetBackup for DB2 software can be loaded:
o onto a server and then manually transferred to each client for
       installation.
   o directly onto each client.
The software includes the tar file for NetBackup for DB2 and the
installation script.  This section describes how to load the software from
    from a ftp site.

As root on your NetBackup client:

    1. Verify that you are at NetBackup 3.1 or greater.
This patch will not work correctly with any other version.
        cat /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/version

     2. Get the patch to the /tmp directory on your client.
       cd /tmp
       Acquire patchF0800156.README file via ftp
       Acquire patchF0800156.<platform>.tar.Z via ftp

where platform is rs6000 or rs6000_42.

(rs6000 is for AIX 4.1 and rs6000_42 is for AIX 4.2 or greater)

     3. Extract the patch files.
       cd /
       zcat /tmp/patchF0800156.<platform>.tar.Z | /bin/tar xvpf -

This copies NetBackup for DB2 and the install_dbext script to the
       /usr/openv/netbackup/dbext directory.

Run the Installation Script on the Client
   1. Log in as a root user on the client.

       su root

    2. Ensure that the following prerequisites are met:

o NetBackup version 3.1 or greater client software is installed and
operational. This also means that the /usr/openv/netbackup directory
        already exists on the client.

o Adequate disk space exists. Less than one megabyte of additional disk
space is required in the /usr/openv/netbackup directory. However,
more disk space may be necessary at run time.

o Ensure that the /usr/openv/netbackup/dbext directory contains
both the install_dbext script and all the tar files for NetBackup for
        DB2.

    3. Change your working directory to:

       cd /usr/openv/netbackup/dbext

    4. Execute the install script by entering:

       ./install_dbext

       This script does the following.

o  Prompts the user to specify the platform type.

o  Searches the current directory for NetBackup for DB2 tar files.

If the script does not find NetBackup for DB2 tar files in the
current directory, it prompts you as to where to find them.

o  After finding the tar files, the script prompts you for the packages
         that you want to install.

         <> EXAMPLE

         NetBackup Database Extensions Installation
Found packages to install NetBackup for
          Oracle
          Datatools SQL-BackTrack
          SAP
          Informix
          Sybase
          DB2

Do you want to install NetBackup for Oracle? (y/n) y
Do you want to install NetBackup for Datatools SQL-BackTrack? (y/n) y
Do you want to install NetBackup for SAP? (y/n) y
Do you want to install NetBackup for Informix? (y/n) y
Do you want to install NetBackup for Sybase? (y/n) y
Do you want to install NetBackup for DB2? (y/n) y

    5. Choose NetBackup for DB2.

The script extracts NetBackup for DB2 from the tar files, and runs the
      installation scripts.

The NetBackup for DB2 install script is named install_db2. This script
prompts you for the instance home path and then does the following:

       o Creates a link from /user/openv/netbackup/bin/db2ext2 to
        $INSTHOME/sqllib/adm/db2ext2.

o Creates a communication directory and work directory in
        /usr/openv/netbackup/dbext/comm.

o Copies a sample db2.conf file from the NetBackup directory to the DB2
        instance owners home directory.

       <> EXAMPLE

          Installing Netbackup for DB2...

       Extracting files from /usr/openv/netbackup/dbext/DB2.rs6000.tar
      x usr/openv/netbackup
      x usr/openv/netbackup/bin
      .
      .
Please specify the instance home path name:
      /home/db2inst1

       Linking /home/db2inst1/sqllib/adm/db2uext2 to
      /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/db2uext2
      Creating directory /usr/openv/netbackup/ext/dbext/comm
      Changing mode bits on /usr/openv/netbackup/dbext/comm
      NetBackup for db2 installation completed.

DB 3.1GA/3.1.1GA Patch S0800189  README                      March 08, 2000
==============================================================================
DESCRIPTION:

Adjust socket buffer size to help improve performance for
   NetBackup for DB2 database extension.

In special cases, the send and receive buffers associated with a socket
may need to be adjusted to improve the performance of a restore or backup.
To adjust the buffer size of a socket, create a NET_BUFFER_SZ file in
  the NetBackup directory.  For example:

      /usr/openv/netbackup/NET_BUFFER_SZ

The file should be created both on the client and server machines.  This
file must contain a numeric value the will set to the socket buffer size.
The numeric value is in bytes.  For example

       cat /usr/openv/netbackup/NET_BUFFER_SZ
      65536
