DB 3.1 Patch P0800011 README                                   May 13, 1998
==============================================================================

Description:

This patch replaces the /usr/openv/netbackup/dbext/install_dbext script that
is used to install DB Extensions on a NetBackup client machine. It corrects
an abort problem that only occurs on a NetBackup clients with the following
message:
      /usr/openv/netbackup/version not found.
      Aborted.
The existing install_dbext script uses the server version file to get platform
information that does not exist if only client software is installed.
The patch looks for the correct client version file in /usr/openv/netbackup/bin
directory.

The following files are included in this patch:
      install_dbext

Installation Instructions:

Please read all of the following before proceeding.

As root on the NetBackup client:

1. Get the patch to the /tmp directory on your NetBackup client.
   cd /tmp
  Acquire patchP0800011.tar.Z via ftp.

2. Install the new script.

      cd /usr/openv/netbackup/dbext
      /bin/tar -xvf /tmp/patchP0800011.tar

DB 3.1.1GA  Patch P0800182 README                                 Nov 19, 1999
==============================================================================

Description:
Feature: If the file <install_dir>/USEDEFAULTDATERANGE exists, a default
date range will be used to find backup images in the NetBackup
     catalog.

Problems:
   - Valid backup images were not found in the NetBackup catalog due to a
problem with timestamp generation when using EBU 2.2.0.9.

   - An intermittent socket connection error results in the following
     entries in the obackup_tape log.

     05:42:21 [558] <16> close_connection: Error reading server exit status:
     err=-32
     05:42:21 [558] <16> cln_close_api: Server is dead.
     05:42:21 [558] <16> sbtclose: ERROR. Failed to process: <37846941520954>

Installation Instructions:

As root on the NetBackup client:

1. Get the patch to the /tmp directory on NetBackup client.

      cd /tmp
      Acquire patchP0800182.<platform>.tar.Z via ftp
      Acquire patchP0800182.README via ftp
where platform is rs6000, hp, sgi, sequent4.2, solaris,
                               alpha or ncr

2. Stop EBU instance manager if Oracle7 or RMAN if Oracle8

3. Rename the existing libobk[a,so,so.1,sl]

      mv ${LIBOBK_LOCATION}/libobk.[a,so,sl,so.1] \
         ${LIBOBK_LOCATION}/libobk.[a,so,sl,so.1].b4.patchP0800182

where LIBOBK_LOCATION is the pathname of the existing
       NetBackup for Oracle library.

4. Install the new library

      cd /tmp
      zcat patchP0800182.<platform>.tar.Z | /bin/tar -xvf -

5. Make the library visible to EBU/RMAN by:
      - adding /usr/openv/netbackup/bin to the library search path
            set PATH=$PATH,/usr/openv/netbackup/bin
      or
      - Symbolically linking from the current libobk location
            ln -s /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/libobk.[a,so,sl,so.1] \
                  ${LIBOBK_LOCATION}/libobk.so

Additional notes:
   This patch replaces patchP0800175, patchP0800094, patchP0800045,
    patchP0800034, and patchP0800008.

patchP0800175
Corrects a problem introduced in patchP0800094. EBU or ebutool
utility fails whenever a delete of a Backup File Set (BFS) is
issued where the media has already been expired within the
NetBackup catalog. "sbtremove" now returns success when the BFS
        is not found.

patchP0800094
      - EBU 2.2.0.6 is supported. This is the Y2K version of EBU
      - Add support for socket size > 64K on IBM SP2 platforms.
      - encryption is supported.

patchP0800045
1- NetBackup Database Extension client times out reading the
         initial information from the commfile.
2- NetBackup Database Extension client closes the data socket
after sending a small backup image before server reads the data.

patchP0800034
Corrects the problems of failed Oracle backups due to
          master/client timezone difference.
After the completion of every backup job, EBU/RMAN immediately requests
the media id of the backup image from NBU. This request fails if
server's time is different from the client's time.
This patch increases the allowed time difference from the current 30
          minutes to 24 hours.

patchP0800008
       - a request sent to "bprd" could be interrupted causing
         "sbtinfo" to fail.
       - the last completion message isn't always received
from the server since it could be very busy and got timed
out before the message was sent. This causes the db client
to loop, waiting for the message that will never come.

DB 3.1.1GA  Patch P0800191 README                                 Jun 20, 2000
==============================================================================

Description:

EBU restores are taking too long. The actual load is over in a few
minutes but the image is not located for almost 2 hours. Its seems
to be related to the date range of the search. Starting from
1995 to the present, the default date range.

The timestamps used to find images in the NetBackup catalog are calculated
incorrectly. With EBU release 2.2.0.9, the timestamp that makes up part
of the backup file name is represented as Hex values. Previously they
were decimal values. This causes "not found" errors.

The NetBackup dbclient debug log will show messages similar to:
   09:57:36 [13531] <16> sbtinfo: No media found

Installation Instructions:

As root on the NetBackup for Oracle client:

1. Get the patch to the /tmp directory on the NetBackup client.

      cd /tmp
      Acquire patchP0800191.<platform>.tar.Z via ftp
      Acquire patchP0800191.README via ftp
where platform is rs6000, hp11_64, dgux, sequent4.2, solaris, or ncr

2. Stop EBU instance manager if Oracle7 or RMAN if Oracle8

3. Rename the existing libobk[a,so,so.1,sl]

      mv ${LIBOBK_LOCATION}/libobk.[a,so,sl,so.1] \
         ${LIBOBK_LOCATION}/libobk.[a,so,sl,so.1].b4.patchP0800191

where LIBOBK_LOCATION is the pathname of the existing
       NetBackup for Oracle library.

4. Install the new library

      cd /
      zcat /tmp/patchP0800191.<platform>.tar.Z | /bin/tar -xvf -

5. Make the library visible to EBU/RMAN by:
      - adding /usr/openv/netbackup/bin to the library search path
            set PATH=$PATH,/usr/openv/netbackup/bin
      or
      - Symbolically linking from the current libobk location
            ln -s /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/libobk.[a,so,sl,so.1] \
                  ${LIBOBK_LOCATION}/libobk.so

Additional notes:
   This patch replaces patchP0800182, patchP0800175, patchP0800094,
    patchP0800045, patchP0800034, and patchP0800008.

patchP0800182
