Environment

Issue

After configuring a Volume Manager Disk Group(VMDg) resource in MSCS an error will occur if the resource type is not configured correctly.

Error

vxresext resource properties are not available.

Cause

After the installation of Storage Foundation for Windows with the Microsoft Cluster Software (MSCS) option, an error will be displayed in the Properties for the Volume Manager Disk Group (VMDG) resource, when the ClusReg.cmd is launched to configure the VMDG resource.
ClusReg.cmd creates an unnecessary resource extension for Windows 2008 clustering software, which may cause this issue.

Solution

To remove this entry:

1) Open the Failover Cluster Management.
2) Right Click the cluster name and go to properties.
3) Click on Resource Types tab
4) Select the VMDg resource in the lower window and  select the properties button.
5) Choose select Remove and browse to the Cluster Extensions folder.
***Default is C:\Windows\Cluster\extensions or c:\Programs Files (x86)\Veritas\Veritas Volume Manager 5.1\
6) Select the vxresext.dll and choose Open, then click Apply.

The Extensions Register should now be: 0. After these changes the resource should now be configurable.

If the vxresext.dll is not listed in this folder it can also be found in %vmpath%(SFW install dir/Veritas Volume Manager 5.1).
