A memory leak in mpio.sys may cause clustered services to fault unexpectedly

Error

Event ID 2019

Description: The server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool because the pool was empty

Solution

Mpio.sys version 1.21 or 1.22, which are shipped with some MPIO based multipathing solutions and certain versions of the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator; have a nonpaged pool kernel memory leak which could lead to unexpected cluster agent behavior.

Depletion of the non-paged pool can cause the computer to stop responding (hang) or experience an unexpected failover.

Note: Storage Foundation DMP DSM does not use this version of the MPIO framework.

Solution:

Method 1: If you are using Fibre Channel storage, the MPIO binaries are distributed via the storage vendor with their DSM.  Please contact the storage vendor to inquire about an update that includes a different version of mpio.sys.

Method 2: If you are using the iSCSI Software Initiator, an updated iSCSI Initiator package is available from Microsoft.
