This article outlines the SNMP Identifiers that can be used in SNMP queries to the appliance.

Solution

Requirements:

  • SNMP services must be enabled and properly configured on the Symantec Messaging Gateway appliance.

SNMP Identifiers

The following tables are a summary of the most commonly used/queried OIDs on Symantec Messaging Gateway appliances:

Generic System SNMP OIDs

NOTE: The values of "hrStorage*" OIDs are shown in 'allocation units', therefore you may need to convert them to the appropriate value in Bytes. For more information please refer to the allocation units list below:

      HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrStorageAllocationUnits.1 = INTEGER: 1024 Bytes
      HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrStorageAllocationUnits.2 = INTEGER: 1024 Bytes
      HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrStorageAllocationUnits.3 = INTEGER: 1024 Bytes
      HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrStorageAllocationUnits.4 = INTEGER: 4096 Bytes
      HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrStorageAllocationUnits.5 = INTEGER: 4096 Bytes
      HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrStorageAllocationUnits.6 = INTEGER: 1024 Bytes
      HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrStorageAllocationUnits.7 = INTEGER: 4096 Bytes
      HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrStorageAllocationUnits.8 = INTEGER: 4096 Bytes

SBG Appliance specific OIDs

MIB file: SYMANTEC-MAIL-SECURITY.txt

IMPORTANT NOTE:

SNMP monitoring of the Symantec Brightmail Gateway (SBG) is only supported based on the MIB files that are available from the Control Center.

For a list of the available MIB files, please see the topic titled "Downloading a Management Information Base for SNMP" on page 457 in Symantec Brightmail Gateway 8.0 Administration Guide.

SNMP monitoring of OIDs other than the ones included in the above mentioned MIB files is not supported.

Technical Information

Following is the tree output from a MIB browser tool, showing the SNMP objects that can be queried using the SYMANTEC-MAIL-SECURITY.TXT file:

The followings are sample outputs of all SNMP queries related to the RAID controllers on Symantec Brightmail Gateway appliances (models 8260/8360/8380).

Note: the most commonly used OIDs are in bold.
