Error: "403 4.7.0 Authentication failed" when attempting to send email through Symantec Hosted Mail Security via Transport Layer Security (TLS)

Issue



When you send a message through Symantec Hosted Mail Security using Transport Layer Security (TLS), you receive a Non-Delivery Report (NDR) or mail server log entry that contains the error "403 4.7.0 Authentication failed".


Cause



Security certificate on Hosted server possibly expired, or certificate from sender expired.

Solution




To troubleshoot this issue, please collect:
  • Example NDR's with intact headers and related mail server log entries which are no older than five (5) calendar days.
  • The certificate file used for this TLS communication.
