Extracting attachments or messages from quarantine for submission or review

Issue



You need to extract an attachment or a message from the quarantine to submit to Symantec or for personal review.


Solution



If extracting an attachment:

  1. Open the quarantine database.
  2. Double-click on the quarantine entry with the item to be extracted.
  3. Click Save attachment or drag the attached file to the Desktop.
    Unscanned release may also be used, which will try to deliver the message to its originally intended recipient.


If message body needs to be extracted:

  1. Open the quarantine database.
  2. Double-click on the quarantine entry with the item to be extracted.
  3. Click the View Menu > Show > Page Source (this only works if the message was received via SMTP).
    This will open the raw message headers and body as well as MIME encoding will be visible. Contents can be copied and pasted into a regular text file, if needed.


Note: Please use caution when working with extracted items from the quarantine.
