Windows 2008 Support for Scan Engine
This version ships with Scan Engine 5.2.4 , which provides Windows 2008 support. SPSS versions 5.1.2 and later provide Windows 2008 support for the SPSS Console.

Symptom: When a Full Install is performed on Windows 2008 Server, Symantec Scan Engine is not automatically registered under ‘Symantec Protection 5.1 for SharePoint Servers’ console.
Solution: Symantec Scan Engine needs to be manually registered on Windows 2008 Server to appear under ‘Symantec Protection 5.1 for SharePoint Servers’ console. To do this:

  1. Navigate to Windows Server Services tab.
  2. Manually restart Symantec Scan Engine Services.
  3. Register Symantec Scan Engine from ‘Symantec Protection 5.1 for SharePoint Servers’ console.

Symptom: UI text is changed but the information is not updated in the Implementation Guide.
In the Symantec Protection 5.1 for SharePoint Servers Implementation Guide, the texts in points 7 and 8 under section ‘Configuring real-time scanning’ show as:

    7. Select the Bypass scanning when all scan engines are busy check box to continue to upload or download files even if all the registered scan engines are busy.
    8. Select the Bypass scanning when all scan engines are offline or disabled check box to continue to upload or download files even if no registered scan engine is available to scan the file.

Solution: The working and UI text for the above options are changed only in UI.
The correct texts in the Implementation Guide should be read as:

    7. Select the Bypass scanning when all scan engines are busy or offline check box to continue to upload or download files even if all the registered scan engines are busy or offline.
    8. Select the Bypass scanning when all scan engines are disabled check box to continue to upload or download files even if no registered scan engine is available to scan the file.

User Interface: There are changes in UI under Real-time scan settings page.
