On AIX, if VRTSvlic 3.0.6.0 is installed, then installation of VRTSvxvm 3.2.2.0 or VRTSvxfs 3.4.4.0 packages from VERITAS Foundation Suite (tm) 3.4.2 will disable VERITAS File System (tm) or VERITAS Volume Manager (tm) licenses.

Error

vxvm:vxdctl: ERROR: enable failed: License has expired or is not available for operation

Solution

Installation of VRTSvxvm 3.2.2.0 or VRTSvxfs 3.4.4.0 causes several licensing files to be incorrectly replaced. This causes VERITAS Volume Manager (VxVM) and VERITAS File System (VxFS) licensing to be disabled.

The following conditions must exist for this issue to occur:

1.  VRTSvlic 3.0.6.0 is installed
2.  VRTSvxvm is upgraded to version 3.2.2.0 or VRTSvxfs is upgraded to version 3.4.4.0

Running vxdctl enable causes the following VxVM licensing error :

# vxdctl enable
vxvm:vxconfigd: ERROR: enable failed: License has expired or is not available for operation: transactions are disabled.
vxvm:vxdctl: ERROR: enable failed: License has expired or is not available for operation

A similar licensing error will occur when mounting VxFS.

Note: This problem is visible only if the host has VRTSvlic 3.0.6.0 installed. That problem does not arise with the VRTSvlic 2.0.X package.

Solution:

Re-install the VRTSVlic 3.0.6.0 package from VERITAS Database Edition for Oracle (tm) or VERITAS Cluster Server (tm) CDs. Alternatively, you may download the VRTSvlic 3.0.6.0 package (VRTSvlic_258850.tar.Z) by clicking on the "Download Now" link at the end of this document.

Download and unzip VRTSvlic_258850.tar.Z  :
# zcat VRTSvlic_258850.tar.Z | tar xvf -

Re-install VRTSvlic 3.0.6.0:

# installp -acFX -d ./VRTSvlic.bff VRTSvlic

After re-installation of VRTSVlic 3.0.6.0, re-run vxdctl enable to re-enable Volume Manager.
# vxdctl enable
