How is a client deployed to from within the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Small Business Edition console?

Solution

Log on to the Symantec Protection Center (SPC) console
    1. Click Start> Programs> Symantec Protection Center> Symantec Protection Center Console.
    2. In the Symantec Protection Center logon prompt, in the User Name box, type the Username: admin.
    3. In the Password box, type the admin password that you created during installation, and then click Log on.
      • This may take several seconds the first time you log into the console.
      • Once you have successfully logged into the console for the first time, a Welcome message will be displayed, click Close.

Deploy a client using Common Tasks
    1. From the Home page, find the Common Tasks drop down menu in the upper right corner of the page.
    2. Click the drop down menu and select Install Protection Client to computers.

    3. The Client Installation Wizard will appear.

    4. Select the “Default Group” from the drop down menu if no other group is available.
      • Only the “My Company and Default Groups” are created during the management server install.
      • All other groups will have to have been created manually or migrated from legacy Symantec AntiVirus Parent Servers.

    5. Select the type of installation desired, and click Next.
      • Note: A typical installation includes: Antivirus/Antispyware Protection; Firewall; Intrusion Prevention; and TruScan™ “0” Day Protection.
      • An advanced installation allows you to choose which technologies are deployed, including virus email protection plug-ins. If email security software has been installed on mail servers, deployment of the email protection plug-ins is not necessary, however it can be leveraged as added mail security if desired.

    6. Choose the type of installation method and select Next.
      • Email Notification Installation (recommended).
Sends software installation instructions via e_mail to a recipient list that you specify.
NOTE: Recipients must have local Admin rights to their computers.
      • Remote Push Installation (advanced).
Searches for and installs protection software on computers that you specify using a
        remote deployment method.
      • Custom Installation (advanced).
Creates an executable installation package, but does not distribute protection software
to remote computers requiring a third party deployment solution.

    Email Notification Installation
      • Enter the email address of the addresses that should receive the notification and Click Next.
You have the option of customizing the Email subject if desired.

      • Open the Email of the user to which the message was sent and verify that the message was
received. Select the installation for 32-bit or 64-bit. The client should then begin the install
        process.

    Remote Push Installation
      • Once Remote Push Installation is selected, expand the network tree to locate the client in
which you will deploy the client to and add it to the deployment list.

      • Enter the Administrator login credentials required to install the client remotely and click Ok.

      • The client name will appear in the Install Protection Client on list. From the drop-down
        menu under the
Type tab, select the type of installation: 32-bit, 64-bit, or I Don't Know.
        and click
        Next.

      • Review the list of computers to be installed and click Install.

    Custom Install
      • To create a custom install package, choose the Custom Install option.
Note: A typical installation includes: Antivirus/Antispyware Protection; Firewall; Intrusion Prevention; and TruScan™ “0” Day Protection.
An advanced installation allows you to choose which technologies are deployed, including virus email protection plug-ins. If email security software has been installed on mail servers, deployment of the email protection plug-ins is not necessary, however it can be leveraged as added mail security if desired.
      • Choose what type of package to create.

      • Click Next, then click Finish.

The custom install files will be created in the following folder unless otherwise specified.

        C:\Temp\Symantec\Client Packages
      • Review the install package parameters, then click Next to export the package.
