Issue

  • The Windows Installer service is disabled
  • The last attempt to launch the service failed.

Cause

For installation of many Symantec products, it is required that the Microsoft Windows Installer service be in an operational state. This also applies to remote installations.

Solution

Note: To check if this document describes the computer in question, download and run a 'Check product install requirements' scan with SymHelp.

To start the Windows Installer service

  1. Click Start > Run, type services.msc, and click OK.
  2. Click the Windows Installer service, and then click Start.

For further troubleshooting of the Windows Installer service, consult your system vendor, or Microsoft.
