When clicking LUA 2.x's Configure tab, and then Client Settings. it is possible to export Windows client settings into a Settings.Hosts.LiveUpdate file that can be opened with a text editor. When exporting and opening the Java client settings file (liveupdt.hst), the text editor displays lines of random characters.
Sample liveupdt.hst file:
This is by design. Java LiveUpdate (JLU) settings files are encrypted to prevent tampering.
Once copied to the client computer, Symantec Antivirus for Linux (or other product that uses Java LiveUpdate) will be able to correctly decrypt the liveupdt.hst and communicate with the LUA 2.x server.
To enable client computers to download updates from your Production Distribution server, you must first generate a Settings.Hosts.LiveUpdate file or a liveupdt.hst file. The Settings.Hosts.LiveUpdate file controls the LiveUpdate operation on Windows client computers. The liveupdt.hst file controls the LiveUpdate operation on client computers where Java LiveUpdate is used.
After you've created the host file, you copy it to the installation folder on the client computer. By default, the installation folder is C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate. When the LiveUpdate client runs, it will use the Settings.Hosts.LiveUpdate or the liveupdt.hst file for information on where to download updates.
The client settings file can point to one or more LUA 2.x Distribution servers. The list can include both primary servers and failover servers. LiveUpdate will attempt to connect to the servers in the order that they are listed.
To generate a host file for Java LiveUpdate clients:
- Click the Configure tab, and then click Client Settings.
- Select the distribution center that you want to create a host file for, and then click Export Java Settings.
- Click Save.
- Select the location to save the file, and then click Save.
The file for Java LiveUpdate clients should be saved as liveupdt.hst.
